Tom Hanks’ ‘Hanx Writer’ types its way to the top of the App Store in a week
Typewriter app Hanx Writer has shot to the top of the iTunes App Store, ranking number 1 in the Productivity section and Overall, says TechCrunch reporter Sarah Perez.
Why is this worthy of a blog? Well it seems quite quirky … the marriage of old-fashioned with digital and free on the app store and backed by a squeaky-clean celebrity. (and dare I say, it’s quite fun to use if you enjoy writing)
The idea behind it is that it turns your iPad into an old-fashioned typewriter with the bang of key presses, hard returns and chimes at the end of a line. The chimes are my favourite part.
Yet it’s digital with no need for white tape or wet, lumpy liquid paper and there are options to print, email or share.
It opens with a little note from Hanks about his history and love of typewriters, in particular the SHOOK SHOOK or FITT-FITT that he finds inspire his writing. Let’s not forget the ease of a DELETE key.
And you can of course upgrade ribbon colours, and two other typewriters – so he has the eCommerce angle covered.
Is this an app you can’t live without? Well, no.
But it’s fun, enjoyable and if you are part of content creation and are experiencing writer’s block – may be worth mixing it up with something like this app.
